Goalies’World rankings
3-week lead for Tomas
Vokoun
For a 3rd straight Monday, Tomas Vokoun, of
the Florida Panthers is leading the Goalies’World Magazine computer rankings
with a 19-19-9, .931, 2.34 record. Vokoun leads the NHL in shutouts (7) along
with Martin Brodeur and he’s also Mr. Rubber with an average of 33.9 shots per
game. He’s co-leader in save percentage with Ryan Miller. The Czech goaltender
also holds an impressive 34-9-3, Hot-Ok-Bad profile with 5 stolen wins which means that he’s hot 73% of
the time, average, 20% and bad, 7%. That’s consistency at its best and that’s
nothing new for Vokoun a relatively unknown goaltender who ranked 4th,
17th, 2nd and 3rd at Goalies’World over the
four previous seasons. Vokoun did not get a single win in three outings this
week but he was nevertheless solid in goal for the Panthers with a 0-3, .919,
2.73 record.
Goalies’World goalie of the
week
JS Giguere, a perfect Leafs
You never have a second chance to make a good first
impression and Jean-Sebastien Giguere certainly made quite an impression after
being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs last week. Jiggy recorded two shutouts
in his first two games with the Leafs, stopping 30 shots each time in two home
wins against the New Jersey Devils (3-0) on Tuesday and against the Ottawa
Senators on Saturday.
Stealers of the week
Jaroslav Halak steals
the show
Jaroslav Halak stole two wins for the Montreal
Canadiens, this week, both 45 saves two goals performances against Vancouver
(3-2 home win) on Tuesday and against Boston (3-2, road shootout win). That’s a
total of 94 shots and 4 goals in those two stolen wins. Outstanding.

Justin Peters solid in
his first start
Justin Peters was nearly perfect in his first NHL
start on Saturday in Long Island, leading the Carolina Hurricanes to a 3-1 road
win against the New York Islanders. The 23-year old stopper from Blyth,
Ontario, made 34 saves and recorded a stolen win as the Canes were outshot
35-25. Recalled earlier this week from Albany, Peters was a 2nd round pick in 2004.
