Goalies’World rankings
Antero Niittymaki is
back on top
Tampa Bay Lightning stopper, Antero Niittymaki, our
leader after week 6, took the lead off Ryan Miller who slid to 3rd place behind Evgeni Nabokov (San Jose) as of Monday, November 22nd.
Niittymaki, who leads the league in save percentage (.936), only played one
game this week, a 4-3, 28 saves overtime win in Atlanta after watching his
partner, Mike Smith play three straight games. Previously, Niittymaki had five
straight starts.
Goalies’World goalie of the
week
Carey Price is our red
hot
Montreal Canadiens goaltender is on a 5-game hot
streak as of Monday, November 22nd and he boasts three solid
performances in week 8 with a 2-0-1, .940, 1.91 record for the week. He led the
Habs to a 3-2, 30 saves shootout home win against Carolina on Tuesday. On
Friday, the Habs got the best over the Washington Capitals in a 3-2, 32 saves
road win, and the next night at home against Detroit, Price stopped 32 of 34
shots in 65 minutes, before losing the game in the shootout, giving up two
goals on two shots. Prior to that game Price was perfect in shootouts with 9
saves in 9 attempts good for three wins.
Stealers of the week
Clemmensen steals the
Wings
After Tomas Vokoun last week, our stealer of the week
again is a Florida Panthers netminder, Scott Clemmensen. The Panthers backup
was outstanding in Detroit (of all places) on Friday, leading the Cats to a 2-1,
39 saves win. A good decision from coach Peter DeBoer since a well rested
Vokoun helped the Panthers to a 3-2 win the next night against the Rangers at
Madison Square Garden.
