Antti Niemi takes the
lead
Never in NHL history did a Finnish goalie allowed a
goal in a game played in Finland. Well that situation occurred only once and it
was last Saturday in Helsinki where Chicago Blackhawks rookie, Antti Niemi
stopped 23 shots in a 4-0 shutout over the Florida Panthers. Niemi, who was in
his 4th NHL game, is thus the Goalies’World leader after the first
week of activity of 2009-10 season with 107.5 points.
Goalies’World goalie of the
week
Craig Anderson
The Colorado Avalanche may have made the deal of the
year when they acquired Craig Anderson. The former Florida Panthers netminder
was fantastic in two games, stopping 38 of 40 shots in a 5-2 stolen win over
the San Jose Sharks on the Joe Sakic night. Two days later, Anderson was even
better with a 35 saves home shutout against Roberto Luongo and the Vancouver
Canucks
Stealers of the week
Kiprusoff and Price
Contrary to previous seasons, Calgary Flames
goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff is off to a solid start. Kipper recorded two stolen
wins this week, allowing three goals in 5-3 and 4-3 wins against Vancouver and
Edmonton. The Flames were outshot 42-22 and 34-21 respectively. Carey Price
also recorded two road stolen wins in Toronto (4-3) and Buffalo (2-1). The
Canadiens were badly outshot 46-27 and 35-17 in those two games.
